Find the Right Real Estate Agent

When looking for a real estate agent, you obviously want one that is experienced and will be able to help you with the specific needs you have. However, with the many real estate agents available, how can you determine which one will be right for you?

Real estate agents usually advertise themselves or their firms to be the best in the market. Some of the common ways that real estate agents use to advertise themselves include using direct-mail post cards, on the internet, on real estate magazines or simply by using yard signs. You can be easily overwhelmed with the real estate agents in the market when it comes to picking the right one. However, with a little research, you can easily find an agent that is right for you based on his/her past records.

Whether you want to buy or sell real estate, here are things you should consider before hiring an agent:
Practical and Helpful Tips: Agencies

Check the recent clients
Find out from the agents how active they have been in the market. Ideally, you want an agent that has been actively involved in helping clients buy or sell property over the last one year. With the dynamics of real estate industry always changing, an active agent will be in a better position to advise you on various issues related to the market.
A Beginners Guide To Agents

Ask the agents to provide you with a list of clients they have worked with in the past. The clients could be those that they have sold or listed property for over the last one year. You should reach out to these clients later on to find out about their experience with the agent. Before you leave the agent, ask him/her whether there are any clients that may not want to be contacted and those that may want to be contacted.

When you get in touch with the clients that the agent referred you to, find out about the asking and sale price of the properties they were dealing with. If your main reason for looking for a real estate agent is to sell property, find out whether the ones the potential agent has sold in the past were comparable to yours in terms of features, location and size. Look for an agent that has specialized in the type of property you wish to sell.

Another piece of information you should find out about is how long the homes were in the market before they were sold.

Check Licensing
The state real estate licensing body is in charge of disciplining and licensing agents in the state. Check with your state’s regulatory body to find out whether the agent you want to hire is licensed to work in the state. You should also find out whether there are any disciplinary actions that have been taken against the agent.

The above are two things you should consider before choosing an agent.
