Kangaroo Island? Will we be able to see kangaroos just hanging around? This was our first question when we were planning our trip to Australia and we started reading about this island for the first time. The answer is YES…. you will see kangaroos, koalas, fur seals, New Zealand sea lions, penguins and nature, nature and more nature.
Just off Australia’s southern coast and just after 45 minutes boat ride from Cape Jarvis you will reach this remote and beautiful island, with spectacular scenery and rugged coastal cliffs.
The best way to visit the island after flying to Australia is hiring a car or taking an organized tour. You won’t find any public transportation or taxi service. Please, be sure to have plenty of fuel because it’s not very easy to find gas stations and they close around 6:00 p.m. If you don’t have time, you can book a day tour from Adelaide, but, the best way to explore the island and to see the nocturnal animals is a minimum 2 days-stay.
Seal Bay is the beach where you want to be. You will be able to see sea lions in the water, in the beach, “walking around”, sleeping, playing …. you will see a lot of them! Please, just don’t miss this beach.
Flinders Chase National Park is considered one of South Australia’s most significant parks and offer many walking trails. The “Remarkable Rocks” are one of the best-known icon of the island and a collection of enormous eroded granite boulders sitting atop a giant dome of lava. Stop there, explore and watch the ocean crashing into the rocks.
