Just a couple of miles up 86 North in Yanceyville is a store that is sure to be a delight for hunters and anyone who enjoys buying and handling a variety of weapons. Brushbeater Store is located at 2928 Hwy. 86 N., Yanceyville.

Owner/operator Matthew Everett is a local of Yanceyville, growing up here “born and raised.” His late father Danny Everett also grew up here and operated Cedar Ridge Landscaping. Matthew has deep roots and ties to Caswell County. He joined the Army and after serving three deployments he moved back home and started a family.  “We really look forward to benefiting the local economy and becoming a staple in the town of Yanceyville,” he says.

He adds that very knowledgeable employees are in the building at all times during business hours and “we are also available by email and phone.”

They have been in business selling online since March 2023.

They are proud to say that the storefront that has been open since May 14, 2025 has been “nicely done” by their own efforts.

“We started out in a small barn in our backyard in Timberlake only selling the books that I wrote. The books quickly made me a bestselling author and they are available at Amazon.com,” he says. “Guerrilla’s guide to the Baofeng radio, Guerrillas guide to signals intelligence, and Guerrillas Dispatch volume 1 and volume 2 are available.”

From there they progressed into selling handheld radios and radio accessories, (some are actually Brushbeater branded since he also designs his own line of tactical gear).

“After radios, we went into selling thermal optics and night vision, rifle scopes, and shortly before moving, we started to carry bulk and single serving freeze dried foods. After moving and remodeling we started selling tactical medical gear and tactical apparel.”

Matthew has designed his own line of rifle optics, pistol optics, red and green dot optics, and night vision. “This part of our company is called Khyber Optics and we are super proud of that. Now we have an FFL license and an SOT license so we sell guns, ammunition, and suppressors. The training business has been going strong for about 11 years now and this is done at a separate training center fairly local,” he explains.

They offer retail services and have a black room for trying out night vision and thermals. There is training of all sorts from tactical combat casualty care courses to night vision courses. Visitors can see all of the training courses on their website under training. For those who buy night vision there is a night vision course is available on the website under training and is held locally.

He points out that their business attracts lots of hunters, gun enthusiasts, preppers, radio operators…really anyone who is interested in the lifestyle.

“Right now for the next two months is coyote mating season. Thermal optics are essential to anyone who has a farm because the coyotes are out and about especially now. We offer thermal optics to mount to a helmet or to mount to a rifle. We also sell the mounts and the helmets separately. Any type of hunter is encouraged to stop by because we do sell firearms and ammunition.”
