“Maybe Now It Won’t Totally Suck” – Fans React to Latest Disney World Ride Announcement

Sometimes, it’s the most surprising Disney World news that hits the hardest.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Disney fans are known to be passionate people. We gather up all our courage to tackle the biggest thrill rides, cry big tears during the nightly fireworks, and we’ve even been known to break out into a sporadic song. But that passion can work both ways because when we feel strongly about change at Disney World, it can send shockwaves through the Disney community. One recent refurbishment announcement seems to have caused quite a stir among those most opinionated on its closure.

Change at Disney World is inevitable, and we’ve already seen so much big change in recent years, with even more to come. So you would think that something as small as closing a ride for refurbishment would feel tiny in comparison. Most recently, we’ve seen most of DinoLand U.S.A. become the trending spot to see construction walls, and Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland construction to bring two new lands is not too far away either.

Are you a Galactic Hero?

However, another upcoming closure announced has Disney fans making their voices known! Disney World recently revealed plans to close the beloved Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin ride in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland for a rather lengthy refurbishment. This interactive ride brings you along with the Buzz as an honorary Space Ranger as we work together in our spinning ride pods to blast the evil emperor Zurg causing chaos across the galaxy (for points, of course).

With the announcement of the ride closing in August and an estimated reopening date of sometime in 2026, Disney even teased a few of the upcoming changes we can expect to find within the ride once it reopens, including newly designed blaster guns, updated theming and alien creatures, and more!

This seems to have split fans, and honestly, they’ve made some great points with their arguments! One of our readers, Kevin S. left a comment reading, “Jeez, how much stuff are they going to shut down at the same time? Sounds like this will be closed for months too. I know MK has the most rides, but 2 of the better ones are going to be closed at the same time.” Which seemed to be echoed in Duncan W.’s comment, “shut down all of the parks, one at a time, to speed up these renovation. Sheesh, This feels like a thousand paper cuts instead of just one slash.”

Bill C. also pointed out that the ride’s closure will also leave us missing one of the highest sought after “unofficial souvenirs” you can grab at Magic Kingdom saying, “Took me 5 years to convince my gf to go to Disney World, she actually got excited, ready to go, and the thing she looked forward to most was getting that Galactic Hero sticker. I promise she is a full grown adult lol. But this news is TERRIBLE!”

Others seemed to welcome the news of a refurb and multiple people seem to be onboard with an update to the ride. Reader Tiffany C. said, “Good! Last time I rode on it the car I was in was broken lol. It needs a serious refurb,” while Brandy C. added, “Good! This ride was in awful condition when we went over spring break.” Reader Daniel said, “Maybe now it won’t totally suck.”

It sounds like no matter which side of the argument you’re on, there’s no denying the refurb is probably due for the ride; however, that doesn’t make its absence, during a peak time of the year to note, sting any less.
