PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you plan to drive on freeways across the Valley this weekend, there are a couple of notable closures and restrictions you should know about before hitting the road.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is continuing work on several improvement projects that will cause delays for some travelers.
Phoenix
In north Phoenix, eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a ramp widening project.
The westbound Loop 101 ramp to southbound SR 51 will also be closed, while the HOV lane ramp will stay open. The southbound Black Mountain Boulevard ramp to southbound SR 51 will be closed as well.
Traffic exiting at Cave Creek Road can use eastbound Union Hills Drive or Deer Valley Road to get past the closure.
Further north, crews will narrow Interstate 17 in both directions between Carefree Highway and Anthem Way from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday for lane striping.
Drivers should plan for overnight closures of the northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp at Carefree Highway.
West Valley
The Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway will be closed in both directions between Interstate 10 and Thomas Road from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday. It will happen while Salt River Project works on overhead powerlines.
The work will result in closures at the southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Cardinals Way, Camelback Road and Indian School Road. Both eastbound and westbound I-10 ramps to northbound Loop 101 will be closed.
Drivers can consider using 91st or 99th avenues as alternate routes.
In Surprise, the southbound Loop 303 on-ramp at Grand Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday for a pavement project. Eastbound Grand Avenue will also be restricted between Deer Valley Road and 163rd Avenue.
Motorists can use eastbound Grand Avenue to westbound Bell Road as a detour.
East Valley
In Chandler, the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway ramp to westbound I‑10 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for road maintenance.
Drivers should consider taking the HOV ramp, which will remain open, or exiting before the closure and using westbound Chandler Boulevard to reach I‑10.
Finally, about 7.5 miles east, westbound Loop 202 will be closed at Arizona Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.
According to ADOT, the westbound Loop 202 on‑ramps at Gilbert, Cooper and McQueen roads will be closed. Lindsay Road will also be closed in both directions at Loop 202.
The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Dobson Road closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday. Drivers can consider entering eastbound Loop 202 at Alma School Road.
