“Walt Disney – A Magical Life” is a new show that includes a presentation of the documentary film, “Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream” (now narrated by Disney CEO Bob Iger) followed with a performance by a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic. Guests seemingly join Walt in his office as he speaks through the use of archival voice recordings. The show was previewed for the media earlier this week, but it officially debuted in front of guests on the actual birthday of Disneyland Park, July 17.

In a new video shared on Instagram by @anotherepicadventure, a performance of “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” is seemingly cut short by some technical difficulties. The video shows the Walt Disney Animatronic in the office, leaning back on the nearby desk. During a normal performance, Walt continues talking and stands up from this leaning position, in one example of the many “moonshots” that make this animatronic one of the most fluid and technologically advanced figures built by Walt Disney Imagineering.

However, in the Instagram video, the figure experiences some issues during this process. Walt almost makes it up to a full standing position before suddenly jolting to a stop. The figure proceeds to emit a high-pitched noise as it jitters in place for a moment, seemingly stuck in that spot. Guests watching the show can be heard sighing in sadness as the issue became apparent. The lights illuminating the stage turn off within a few seconds, and the curtains soon go down over the entire stage. As the video ends, Cast Members can be heard apologizing for the technical difficulties.

While not confirmed to be related to the video, “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” was temporarily shut down for less than one hour on July 17. However, the show was operating again in the afternoon, and the Walt Disney Animatronic was back to performing as usual for the rest of the day. It is likely the issue seen in the video was a temporary malfunction, which is not uncommon for an advanced piece of technology during its first few weeks of normal operation.

Interestingly, the fine print disclaimer for the “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” virtual queue specifically mentions that joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to experience the show, and it is possible that “In some circumstances, The Disneyland Story presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln may be presented instead.”
