What American Airlines Has Added To Economy’s Buy On Board Menu

American Airlines has announced that it is set to enhance the buy-on-board food and drink selections for its economy class passengers. Starting next month, the carrier’s increased offering will feature an interesting range of new snacks, including sliders, tapas, and biltong. It has also invested in its beverage offering, and will be rolling out tequila from a Texas-based supplier onboard certain flights in June.

Keen to spread the culinary love whatever class of travel its passengers are flying in, American Airlines has also devised a special something for its premium passengers, with the rollout of a new snack basket in order to complement its existing offering. These moves forward will ensure that American Airlines gets off on the right foot when it comes to passenger experience ahead of a very busy summer.

American Airlines Is Introducing Tequila In Response To Demand

As announced in a statement released yesterday by American Airlines, the carrier “will begin offering tequila on select flights as an in-flight alcoholic beverage option for eligible customers” on June 1st. This enhancement to its beverage offering comes in response to customer demand, and the US legacy carrier and oneworldfounding member has managed to source the goods from a local supplier.

Indeed, the distillery in question is “Dallas-Fort Worth’s own award-winning Socorro Tequila.” The company forms part of the I & A Agave Spirits portfolio, with this supplier located less than an hour’s drive from American Airlines’ hub at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). After the initial rollout on June 1st, American Airlines expects Socorro to be ubiquitously available within weeks, explaining that:

“Socorro Tequila is crafted in the highlands of Jalisco using traditional methods and 100% Blue Weber agave. Known for its clean, additive-free profile, Socorro Tequila delivers a premium flavor that will elevate any journey at 35,000 feet. Tequila will be on board all American flights for customers to sip and enjoy by the end of June. This addition reflects American’s ongoing efforts to reinvigorate the customer experience across all touchpoints of the travel journey.”

Sliders & Tapas Are Among The New Economy Offerings

Alongside the initial tequila rollout, June 1st will also mark the start of a culinary adventure at American Airlines as far as the carrier’s economy class buy-on-board offering is concerned. Indeed, the beginning of next month will see it expand this offering with three new additions, including a “hearty steak and pimento cheese sandwich,” which it says will help to “bring bold Southern flavor to the skies.” These will be available on mainline flights longer than 1,100 miles (1,770 km) in length.

Passengers who aren’t in the market for these sliders may instead be more tempted by American Airlines’ new ‘Tray Table Tapas.’ Named after the surface from which passengers can enjoy their purchases, this selection features “olives, dried apricots, beef jerky, pistachio, white cheddar dip, pita chips, and brownie brittle.”

The third new addition is Brooklyn Biltong Steakhouse Air Dried Beef Jerky, which AA calls “a satisfying, high-protein option ideal for longer flights or quick bites.”
