In a key stride towards sustainable tourism, India’s Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, today laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Development of the Sohra Tourism Circuit in Sohra (Cherrapunji). The project, costing more than 200 crore rupees, is funded under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) and is all set to transform Sohra into a model eco-tourism destination while ensuring improvement in the livelihoods of the local people and preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage along with its ecological beauty.
